Abstract

The need of daily energy consumption is increasing while the availability of energy sources has decreased since the only source used today comes from fossil which is a non renewable energy. Going forward to meet the energy requirements an alternative energy source as one of them, biogas energy, is needed. Biogas is one of the alternative energy sources that can be produced from organic waste. The study was conducted in The Central Market of Kramatjati. The research objective was to determine the characteristics of the type of waste, know the growth rate of generated waste, create the digester to convert waste into methane gas, and determine the potential of gas that can be produced. Based on the collected data and the results, it shows that the contain of organic waste in The Central Market of Kramatjati has 56.25% of fruit and 43.75% of vegetables junk. The annual growth rate of fruits junk in 2017 reachs 31,847 m3. The process of making digester consists of three main phases, designing, manufacturing and testing. Based on data from 2016, there were 26,307.9 liters predicted methane gas using this digester and will increase around 19% to 31,306.4 liters in 2017.
