Abstract

This research presents the results of experimental research on electrical discharge machining (EDM). The workpiece material is SKS3 steel and the electrode is copper. The Taguchi design used in this experiment by varying the peak flow parameters (3A and 6A), pulse on time (Pon = 100μs and 200μs), and pulse off time (Poff = 50μs and 75 μs). Process performance measured here is the material removal rate (MRR) and electrode wear rate (EWR). The experimental results with the Taguchi method indicate that the largest optimal MRR is 4.8530 mm3 / min with setting Flow = 6A, Pon = 100μs and Poff =50μs. For ERW the smallest optimal value is 0.0000412 g / min in Flow = 3A; Pon =200μs; Poff = 75μs.

From the analysis of variance (ANOVA), Flow (96,97%) and Pon (2,3%) significantly influence MRR while EWR influenced Pon (57,10%) and Flow (38,89%).
